What current and past students are saying

"Madame Isabelle is a truly wonderful French teacher whose kindness and talent worked wonders for our family. She taught my husband and me, as well as our children (ages 10 and 12), while we lived in Vancouver, preparing us for our move to France. Her thoughtful, student-focused approach lifted our kids’ French grades to new levels and gave us the confidence to communicate with ease in our new home. Isabelle’s special ability to connect with each learner is truly a gift and we’re so thankful for her positive impact on our lives!"  - Sabrina M.

"Isabelle is such an awesome teacher. She has a perfectly structured class format, making French learning so easy and fun. She also worked with me on completing my very first French speech competition « The 2023 Canada Commonwealth French Public Speaking Compétition ». We brainstormed many ideas, and Isabelle gave me so many helpful suggestions and guided me through the process. I was able to win first place in my age group! I am so grateful for the support she has given me and hope to keep working with her in the future!" - Shea Z.

I began studying French with Isabelle in grade 6 as I was struggling in school. From the start, she was warm and inviting, allowing me to feel comfortable and supported in my studies. I was able to learn the conjugation of all tenses as well as enrich my grammar and vocabulary. My classes with Isabelle were always fun as we were able to not only explore the French language but also, the French culture. We studied works like ”La Peste” by Camus, “Oscar et la Dame rose” by Schmitt, and “Le Petit Prince” by Saint-Exupéry as well as completing an overview of French literature from the 16th to 21st century. We also got to look at French cuisine by baking French specialties like madeleines, crêpes, apple tartes, clafoutis and many other delicious treats! With the help of Isabelle, I was able to obtain a final grade of 7 for each paper of IB French and obtain my DELF B2 French Certificate of fluency. Now, studying at McGill in Montreal, I feel comfortable communicating in French – a skill which I’ll have with me for the rest of my life. Thank you, Isabelle for all your love and hard work!” - Ellie C.

I had the pleasure of having Isabelle as my French teacher over the past four years. She is a wonderful individual and teacher, who is truly passionate about French language and culture and helping students learn. I greatly enjoyed the topics we covered while practicing for the DELF exam, in particular learning about madeleines and their literary significance through Proust!

I entered the French for the Future Essay competition, and with Isabelle’s help, I was able to win a scholarship to the University of Ottawa in 2018. Furthermore, I was also able to achieve a ‘5’ on my AP French exam. I am immensely grateful to the support she provided me to be able to achieve my goals. Beyond the academic scope, Isabelle is a caring tutor who genuinely understands student needs and is willing to help in whatever way she can. Her teaching is informative and fun, and goes beyond strictly the language -- I have learned much from our discussions, as well as strengthening my knowledge of French culture!  I sincerely recommend Isabelle to anybody who wants to improve their French, and I hope that my writing has convinced you!” - Julia W.

"My experience with Isabelle has been wonderful. A couple of years ago, I was training for the Olympics as one of Korea's ice hockey goaltenders. Not only was I a professional athlete, but I was also a student managing my junior year workload and preparing for CollegeBoard tests. Despite my crazy schedule, Isabelle was incredibly accommodating and patient with me. The summer before my departure to Korea, we spent a lot of time working through the SAT Subject test curriculum and discussing French culture. She made sure I was well prepared in all aspects of the test - reading, writing, listening and speaking - with a greater focus on two or three of those skills each lesson. I loved how every session began with a genuine conversation (in French) about how we were doing, how our weeks had been and the plans we had for the weekend; Isabelle has always been supportive about my endeavors both in and out of the classroom. I am very pleased with the work she has helped me accomplish, the love for the French language and culture she has imparted on me, and the devotion she has to her students even after they have left Vancouver for university. Thank you, Isabelle" - Genevieve K.

Merci beaucoup, Mme Isabelle!” - Yuyang C.

"Isabelle is a natural tutor!! I had several lessons from Isabelle when I was preparing for my trip to France several years ago.  She was very helpful in many ways; clear explanations in grammar, pronunciation and different usage of certain words, and she taught me a lot of useful phrases, which came in handy during my travel.  She is extremely thoughtful and gave me a list of places to visit and shop as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the lessons with Isabelle and I know she also loves teaching!!" - Manako R.

"I've known Isabelle for the past ten years, and have had the pleasure of working with her for almost just as long. She is an incredible person and teacher who cares deeply about the success of her students, a quality that's helped me immensely with my learning. From our first lessons where she patiently covered basic grammar to advanced lessons on more complicated conjugations and sentence structures, Isabelle has helped me quickly cover a variety of topics, stand out in school classes, and ultimately develop a fluency in French that I otherwise would not have achieved. With her support and encouragement, I was able to finish AP French with a 5--in other words, full marks--in Grade 10. The next year, I went on to succeed in French Literature, where the reading comprehension skills  I had fostered with Isabelle allowed me to quickly understand and analyze untranslated texts by classic authors like Molière. Isabelle also was a great help in preparing for my SAT Subject Test in French, which I eventually used in my successful application to the University of Oxford. I am so grateful to Isabelle for everything she's taught me; not just as a French speaker, but also as a person." - Lily Y.

"At first, I took lessons because I was struggling in French class at school. However, after studying with Isabelle, I was quickly moved to the most advanced class. Even though I wasn’t behind anymore, I still chose to take lessons in order to practice my speaking and because I wanted to explore the language more in depth. My lessons aren’t limited to grammar and what we do at school: I’ve read a variety of French books over the nine years, from Le Petit prince, to Guy de Maupassant short stories, to philosophical novels by Camus and Schmitt. In discovering French literature, I’ve been introduced to a whole new spectrum of ideas and have come to understand why French is often considered the most beautiful language." - Luna W.

"Isabelle guided me and my two kids to prepare for the DELF exams from Alliance Francaise. She also prepared me to write the TEF exams for the Canadian immigration process. We were extremely happy when the results came in ! She’s an experienced instructor who follows up the student progress thoroughly going beyond what’s expected for a tutor. Her caring approach to education makes all difference, especially with kids. I highly recommend Isabelle!" - Claudia B.

"Isabelle taught me for many years and has helped me significantly in succeeding in both advanced level and IB standard level French. Looking back, I am incredibly grateful to have had her as my tutor, as I don’t think I could’ve done as well as I did without her. She is a very thoughtful and kind person and looking back I feel appreciative that she always made sure that I was very prepared for any assessment or class. In this sense, I always felt secure and ready for every French assessment / class. Not only has she helped me succeed in IB French (through teaching me grammatical structures, vocabulary, complex sentences, etc...), but she has taught me so well that I have come to love French very much and will continue to love the language and the culture for the rest of my life." - Nicole C.

"Over the past few years I have been working with Isabelle to help take my French to a higher level. As a student athlete my time is extremely limited, but with Isabelle being so accommodating I was able to do a lot of sessions online. Since I quite often travel for field hockey, these online sessions are incredibly helpful and very similar to the quality of lessons you would get face to face. Isabelle's expertise and care for her students is unlike anyone else I know. I highly recommend Isabelle as a French tutor!" - Olivia H.
